Three major universities in Ghana offer certificate or degree programs in Information Technology (IT). Information Technology is defined as the study and development of computer-based information systems. Students of Information Technology study how computer software and hardware stores, processes, transmits and protects data. Courses of study in Information Technology are available at the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Ghana Telecom University College.


University of Ghana


  • The University of Ghana's Department of Computer Science is a division of the school's Faculty of Science. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in addition to a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, which is offered through the Faculty of Social Studies. The University of Ghana also has a Department of Computer Engineering, which offers a Bachelor Arts. This department is a division of the school's Faculty of Engineering Sciences. Bachelor's degree programs run over the course of a six semester, three-year course schedule. Applications to any degree program can be made on-line.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology



  • The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology offers an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering through its College of Engineering. In addition, the school offers a post-graduate degree in Information Technology. In addition, Kwame Nkruma University is home to the Osei Tutu II Institute for Advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Studies. In addition to offering a Master's certificate in ICT Education an individualized Optional Program is available for students looking to work in a specific field or profession.

Ghana Telecom University College


  • Ghana Telecom University College offers several certificate and degree programs in Information Technology. The university offers a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Informatics. In addition, a Bachelor of Science program in Computer Technology is offered as is a Bachelor of Science program in Mobile Internet Communication. The university also offers a Master's Degree in Information and Communication Technology and a Master of Telematics degree. Applications are available for download at the school's website.

Please, is University of Education,Winneba,Kumasi Campus also not part of those major university who are offering ICT in Ghana? or is it because of the Education attached to that course that make UEW-K not part.
Hi Adu, Since ICT is spreading through out all the schools, UEW cannot be taken out, but if i may be correct, these are the major once who started and doing it well.
